Disastisfied with one more thing about the iPhone, I set off to make my own ring tones. Here’s how

Don’t buy the iPhone. But if you have already, and you find yourself upset that you have to buy ring tones or only use the ones preloaded on the phone, then try this solution to create your own. Again, the Google machine played no small role in discovering this feat.

  1. Check out this page for a quick run down of what the problem is. Feel free to ignore differences between mp4 and mp3 formats.
  2. Skip step one and go straight to this innovative site, Audiko.
  3. Feel free to check out Vixy.net to download YouTube videos as mp3 files. Keep in mind, any work you do with Garage Band will export your file as mp4a and you won’t be able to utilize Audiko’s services.
  4. Don’t buy Garage Band. Instead, download, Audacity. Open your mp3 or mp4a files in Audacity, edit and then export as mp3 (again to take advantage of Audiko for your iPhone).
  5. Once you’ve got your mp3, then head to Audiko and cut your iPhone ring tone track.

Thanks to Aric Queen for inspiration. He used this track on his Shanghai ringtone, to lure in unsuspecting xx chromosones.
