Publishing Projects
Below are a few of the major sites, blogs and projects I’ve worked on in China, at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and now in Vietnam.
Chronological order starting in 2002:
- redSTAR – In 2003 co-founded and created the first entertainment and business glossy magazine for Qingdao, China – the 2008 Olympic Games co-host city.
- City Weekend – In 2005, managed and led largest English entertainment listings magazine in China – 100,000 copies every two weeks per Shanghai and Beijing. Together with Exoweb and Ringier, built first entertainment Web site in China to include user-generated content.
- ChinaBizEvents – In 2006, built China business events directory, based on original City Weekend database technology.
Columbia Graduate School of Journalism
- Obama and McCain at Columbia – Co-edited the student-led Web site that covered the 2008 Obama and McCain debate at Columbia University.
- New York Decision 2008 – Co-edited the student-led Web site that covered the 2008 presidential election in New York City.
- Hoop Knight – Co-produced 30-minute video documentary and Web site on the 2009 season of the Mount Vernon Knights high school basketball team. Hoop Knight was (briefly
featured on Sports Illustrated, Slam and ESPN. - Columbia Business and Economics Reporting with Dave Kansas – co-edited class blog covering business and economics reporting with Wall Street Journal editor, Dave Kansas, during 2008-2009 economic crisis.
- NYC|24 – produced Web stories for Columbia Graduate School of Journalism Digital Media Dept.
In Vietnam with Ringier Vietnam
- Thoi Trang Tre (“New Fashion” magazine) – Manage sales and marketing and provide design and editorial consultation for Vietnam’s first glossy women’s fashion magazine. Launched in 1993.
- Bep Gia Dinh (“Family Cooking” magazine) – Redesigned and relaunched Vietnam’s first mass-market family cooking and nutrition magazine. Manage all aspects of publishing.
- Paraphrasea – Provide assistance and Web support to students at Ho Chi Minh University of Economics to translate local newspaper headlines and put stories into English-friendly context. (Not related to Ringier Vietnam.)
